  • The nature of HH 223 from long-slit spectroscopy
Context: HH 223 is a knotty, undulating nebular emission of ˜30 arcsec length found in the L723 star-forming region. It lies projected onto the largest blueshifted lobe of the quadrupolar CO outflow powered by a low-mass YSO system embedded in the core of L723. Aims: We analysed the physical conditions and kinematics along HH 223 with the aim of

  • The magnetic SW Sextantis star RXJ1643.7+3402
We present time-resolved spectroscopy and circular spectropolarimetry of the SW Sex star RXJ1643.7+3402. We find significant polarization levels exhibiting a variability at a period of 19.38 +/- 0.39 min. In addition, emission-line flaring is found predominantly at twice the polarimetric period. These two findings are strong evidences in favour of

  • The Lupus Transit Survey for Hot Jupiters: Results and Lessons
We present the results of a deep, wide-field transit survey targeting "Hot Jupiter" planets in the Lupus region of the Galactic plane conducted over 53 nights concentrated in two epochs separated by a year. Using the Australian National University 40-inch telescope at Siding Spring Observatory (SSO), the survey covered a 0.66 deg2 region close to

  • The Large Scale IMF-from local studies to large scale Star-formation
Over the past years observations of young and populous star clusters have shown that the stellar IMF appears to be an invariant featureless Salpeter power-law with an exponent α = 2.35 for stars more massive than a few Msolar. A consensus has also emerged that most, if not all, stars form in stellar groups and star clusters, and that the mass

  • The Impact of the Integrated Galaxy IMF on Supernovae Rate
Recent research regarding the star formation in star clusters on galaxy wide scales indicates that, in the hypothesis that all stars are born within clusters, the supposedly universal initial stellar mass function (IMF) within young star clusters, does not necessarily yield the same IMF for whole galaxies. As star clusters also follow an embedded
