  • A joint XMM-NuSTAR observation of the galaxy cluster Abell 523: Constraints on inverse Compton emission
Aims: We present the results of a joint XMM-Newton and NuSTAR observation (200 ks) of the galaxy cluster Abell 523 at z = 0.104. The peculiar morphology of the cluster radio halo and its outlier position in the radio power P(1.4 GHz) - X-ray luminosity plane make it an ideal candidate for the study of radio and X-ray correlations and for the search

  • A luminous stellar outburst during a long-lasting eruptive phase first, and then SN IIn 2018cnf
We present the results of the monitoring campaign of the Type IIn supernova (SN) 2018cnf (a.k.a. ASASSN-18mr). It was discovered about ten days before the maximum light (on MJD = 58 293.4 ± 5.7 in the V band, with MV = -18.13 ± 0.15 mag). The multiband light curves show an immediate post-peak decline with some minor luminosity fluctuations

  • A Spitzer search for transiting exoplanets around ultra-cool dwarf stars viewed equator-on
Exoplanet population studies indicate that small rocky planets may be common around very low-mass stars and brown dwarfs: "ultra-cool" dwarfs. Temperate rocky planets around ultra-cool dwarf stars could be the best targets for detecting the atmospheric signatures of extrasolar life with the James Webb Space Telescope: because of a favourable star

  • Acoustic oscillations and dynamo action in the G8 sub-giant EK Eridani
We present further evidence of acoustic oscillations in the slowly rotating overactive G8 sub-giant EK Eri. This star was observed with the 1m Hertzsprung SONG telescope at the Observatorio del Teide for two different runs of 8 and 13 nights, respectively, that were separated by about a year. We determined a significant excess of power around νmax

  • All-sky angular power spectra from cleaned WISE×SuperCOSMOS galaxy number counts
Aiming to extract cosmological information from linear scales of the WISE×SuperCOSMOS photometric redshift catalog, we perform a characterization of the systematic effects associated with stellar content, evidencing the presence of contamination and obscuration. We create an integrated model for these effects (which together we call "usurper

  • Atmospheric characterization of the ultra-hot Jupiter MASCARA-2b/KELT-20b. Detection of CaII, FeII, NaI, and the Balmer series of H (Hα, Hβ, and Hγ) with high-dispersion transit spectroscopy
Ultra-hot Jupiters orbit very close to their host star and consequently receive strong irradiation, causing their atmospheric chemistry to be different from the common gas giants. Here, we have studied the atmosphere of one of these particular hot planets, MASCARA-2b/KELT-20b, using four transit observations with high resolution spectroscopy
