  • Optical nebular emission following the most luminous outburst of Aquila X-1
Aquila X-1 is a prototypical neutron star low mass X-ray binary and one of the most studied X-ray transients. We present optical spectroscopy obtained with the Gran Telescopio Canarias (10.4 m) during the 2016 outburst, the brightest recorded in recent times and which showed a standard evolution with hard and soft accretion states. Our dataset

  • Simulations of the Biermann battery mechanism in two-fluid partially ionised plasmas
Context. In the absence of an initial seed, the Biermann battery term of a non-ideal induction equation acts as a source that generates weak magnetic fields. These fields are then amplified via a dynamo mechanism. The Kelvin-Helmholtz instability is a fluid phenomenon that takes place in many astrophysical scenarios and can trigger the action of

  • Testing Einsteins Equivalence Principle and Its Cosmological Evolution from Quasar Gravitational Redshifts
We propose and apply a new test of Einsteins equivalence principle (EEP) based on the gravitational redshift induced by the central supermassive black hole of quasars in the surrounding accretion disk. Specifically, we compare the observed gravitational redshift of the Fe III 2039-2113 emission line blend in quasars with the predicted values in a

  • TOI-269 b: an eccentric sub-Neptune transiting a M2 dwarf revisited with ExTrA
    We present the confirmation of a new sub-Neptune close to the transition between super-Earths and sub-Neptunes transiting the M2 dwarf TOI-269 (TIC 220 479 565, V = 14.4 mag, J = 10.9 mag, R ⋆ = 0.40 R ⊙, M ⋆ = 0.39 M ⊙, d = 57 pc). The exoplanet candidate has been identified in multiple TESS sectors, and validated with high-precision spectroscopy
