  • Binarity and multiperiodicity in high-amplitude delta Scuti stars .
We present our first results for a sample of southern high-amplitude delta Scuti stars (HADS), based on a spectrophotometric survey started in 2003. For CY Aqr and AD CMi, we found very stable light and radial velocity (RV) curves; we confirmed the double-mode nature of ZZ Mic, BQ Ind and RY Lep. Finally, we detected gamma -velocity changes in RS

  • Asteroseismic constraints on the Pleiades distance
The global parameters of the Pleiades cluster are derived from the comparison of observed and computed frequencies of six multi-periodic delta Scuti stars. The best frequency fits lead to a distance modulus of 5.70 in good agreement with the pre-Hipparcos MS fitting methods.

  • Abundance Anomalies in Hot Horizontal Branch Stars of the Galactic Globular Cluster NGC 1904
We present abundance measurements, based on high resolution optical spectroscopic data obtained with the UVES at VLT, for 10 stars in the blue horizontal branch (BHB) of the Galactic globular cluster NGC 1904 (M79). In agreement with previous findings for other clusters, we obtain normal abundances for stars cooler than Te. ~ 11000 K, and largely

  • A Detailed Analysis of an Ephemeral Region .
In order to improve the understanding of the process of emergence of magnetic flux on the solar surface, we studied the temporal evolution of an ephemeral region using emph{Advanced Stokes Polarimeter} data. We adopted two different approaches: first, we used a Milne-Eddington inversion to obtain mean parameters of the emerging bipole magnetic

  • XMM-Newton Observations of X-Ray Emission from Jupiter
We present the results of two XMM-Newton observations of Jupiter carried out in 2003 for 100 and 250 ks (or 3 and 7 planet rotations) respectively. X-ray images from the EPIC CCD cameras show prominent emission from the auroral regions in the 0.2 - 2.0 keV band: the spectra are well modelled by a combination of emission lines, including most
