  • Depleted diffuse bands in circumstellar envelopes of post-AGB stars
We report on new results in the search for diffuse bands, signatures of still unknown origin, in the circumstellar envelopes of evolved (post-AGB) stars.

  • Dark matter halo concentrations in the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe year 5 cosmology
We use a combination of three large N-body simulations to investigate the dependence of dark matter halo concentrations on halo mass and redshift in the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe year 5 (WMAP5) cosmology. The median relation between concentration and mass is adequately described by a power law for halo masses in the range 1011-1015h

  • CoRoT Measures Solar-Like Oscillations and Granulation in Stars Hotter Than the Sun
Oscillations of the Sun have been used to understand its interior structure. The extension of similar studies to more distant stars has raised many difficulties despite the strong efforts of the international community over the past decades. The CoRoT (Convection Rotation and Planetary Transits) satellite, launched in December 2006, has now

  • Cold Dark Matter Cusps in Low Surface Brightness Galaxies by Means of Stellar Kinematics
A sample of galaxies characterized by a low surface brightness disk has dynamically studied using, as tracer, the stellar component. The kinematical data, taken along the major and minor axis, extend well within the disk region. The stellar kinematics is more regular and symmetric than the ionized-gas kinematics. Moreover, when comparing the

  • Coevolution of supermassive black holes and their host galaxies
Accretion onto a supermassive black hole (BH) is the most viable explanation for the huge emitted luminosity in active galaxies. Nowadays a wealth of observations have shown the presence of a BH in many nearby inactive bulges, suggesting that all massive spheroids harbor a BH. Moreover, at low redshift, fundamental correlations have been found
