  • M87
From January until April 2008 the MAGIC Telescope has been monitoring the radio galaxy M87 during several nights. A significant and variable signal has been detected. Following an agreement between the HESS/MAGIC/VERITAS Cherenkov Telescopes, additional observations have been triggered. We will give a short overview of the results from the campaign

  • Long Duration Balloon Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) solar power system development
High altitude scientific balloons have been used for many years to provide scientists with access to near space at a fraction of the cost of satellite based or sounding rocket experiments. In recent years, these balloons have been successfully used for long duration missions of up to 40 days. Longer missions, with durations of up to 100 days (Ultra

  • Local Cosmology from Isolated Dwarfs: variable stars from the LCID project.
During Cycle 14 a total of 113 HST orbits were secured to observe five isolated dwarf galaxies, namely Tucana, LGS3, LeoA, IC1613, and Cetus. The aim of the project is a full characterization of the stellar content of these galaxies, in terms of their SFH, radial distributions, halo populations and variable stars. Deep (V≈29) F475W, F814W data

  • Local Cosmology from Isolated Dwarfs: the derivation of star formation histories.
The color-magnitude diagram (CMD) is the most powerful tool to derive quantitative star formation histories (SFHs) of complex stellar systems which host populations with different ages and chemical compositions. We present some results from the LCID project, based on the analysis of deep HST/ACS CMDs reaching the oldest Main Sequence (MS) Turn Off
