  • The star formation history in 12 SMC fields
We present a quantitative analysis of the star formation history (SFH) of 12 fields in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) based on unprecedented deep [(B-R),R] color—magnitude diagrams (CMDs) from Noël et al. (2007). Our fields reach down to the oldest main sequence (MS) turnoff with high photometric accuracy, which is vital for obtaining accurate

  • The space infrared telescope for cosmology and astrophysics: SPICA A joint mission between JAXA and ESA
The Space Infrared telescope for Cosmology and Astrophysics (SPICA) is planned to be the next space astronomy mission observing in the infrared. The mission is planned to be launched in 2017 and will feature a 3.5 m telescope cooled to 30 microns wavelength). We describe the scientific advances that will be made possible by this large increase in

  • The Nature of Growing Bulges Within z < 1.3 Galaxy Disks in the GOODS-N Field
We analyze central surface brightness μ0, nuclear and global colors of intermediate redshift disk galaxies. On an apparent-diameter-limited sample of 398 galaxies from ACS/HST (Advanced Camera for Surveys in the Hubble Space Telescope) The Great Observatories Origins Deep Survey North (GOODS-N), we find 131 galaxies with bulges and 214 without. • The mass content of the Sculptor dwarf spheroidal galaxy
We present a new determination of the mass content of the Sculptor dwarf spheroidal galaxy, based on a novel approach which takes into account the two distinct stellar populations present in this galaxy. This method helps to partially break the well-known mass-anisotropy degeneracy present in the modelling of pressure-supported stellar systems.

  • The James Clerk Maxwell Telescope Nearby Galaxies Legacy Survey. I. Star-Forming Molecular Gas in Virgo Cluster Spiral Galaxies
We present large-area maps of the CO J = 3-2 emission obtained at the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope for four spiral galaxies in the Virgo Cluster. We combine these data with published CO J = 1-0, 24 μm, and Hα images to measure the CO line ratios, molecular gas masses, and instantaneous gas depletion times. For three galaxies in our sample (NGC

  • The chemical enrichment history of the Magellanic Clouds field populations
We report the results of our project devoted to study the chemical enrichment history of the field population in the Magellanic Clouds using Ca ii triplet spectroscopy.
