  • The Behavior Of Matter Under Extreme Conditions
The cores of neutron stars harbor the highest matter densities known to occur in nature, up to several times the densities in atomic nuclei. Similarly, magnetic field strengths can exceed the strongest fields generated in terrestrial laboratories by ten orders of magnitude. Hyperon-dominated matter, deconfined quark matter, superfluidity, even

  • Stellar populations in the Local Group starburst galaxy IC10
We present preliminary results of a photometric investigation on IC10 using data collected with ACS@HSTS and WFPC2@HST. We estimate the distance using the Tip of the Red Giant Branch (TRGB). According to current estimates, IC10 seems to be a member of the M31 group. By assuming the same distance for the two different pointings, the reddening shows

  • Star count ratios in the Galactic globular cluster M92.
We present both space (ACS@HST: F814W, F606W, F475W) and ground-based (MEGACAM@CFHT: u*, g',i',r',z') photometry of the Galactic Globular Cluster (GGC) M92. Space data are located close to the cluster center, while the ground-based data cover one square degree around the cluster center. We investigate the ratios between Horizontal Branch (HB), Main

  • Spin and Relativistic Phenomena Around Black Holes
Since the seminal work of Penrose (1969) and Blandford & Znajek (1977), it has been realized that black hole spin may be an important energy source in astrophysics. The radio-loud/radio-quiet dichotomy in the AGN population is usually attributed to differences in black hole spin, with correlations between black hole spin and host galaxy morphology
