  • 47 new T dwarfs from the UKIDSS Large Area Survey
We report the discovery of 47 new T dwarfs in the Fourth Data Release (DR4) from the Large Area Survey (LAS) of the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT) Infrared Deep Sky Survey with spectral types ranging from T0 to T8.5. These bring the total sample of LAS T dwarfs to 80 as of DR4. In assigning spectral types to our objects we have

  • 30 GHz observations of sources in the Very Small Array fields
Small angular scale (high l) studies of cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies require accurate knowledge of the statistical properties of extragalactic sources at cm-mm wavelengths. We have used a 30 GHz dual-beam receiver (One Centimetre Receiver Array prototype) on the Toruń 32-m telescope to measure the flux densities of 121 sources in

  • VLT-VIMOS integral field spectroscopy of luminous and ultraluminous infrared galaxies. II. Evidence for shock ionization caused by tidal forces in the extra-nuclear regions of interacting and merging LIRGs
Context. Luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs) are an important class of objects in the low-z universe bridging the gap between normal spirals and the strongly interacting and starbursting ultraluminous infrared galaxies (ULIRGs). Since a large fraction of the stars in the Universe have been formed in these objects, LIRGs are also relevant in a high-z

  • VISTA Variables in the Via Lactea (VVV): The public ESO near-IR variability survey of the Milky Way
We describe the public ESO near-IR variability survey (VVV) scanning the Milky Way bulge and an adjacent section of the mid-plane where star formation activity is high. The survey will take 1929 h of observations with the 4-m VISTA telescope during 5 years (2010-2014), covering ˜109 point sources across an area of 520 deg2, including 33 known

  • Very low mass stars in Praesepe (Boudreault+, 2010)
The near-infrared (NIR) observations were made on the 3.5m telescope at Calar Alto, Spain (with observation runs of several nights from February 2005 to January 2007). The optical observations were carried out with the Wide Field Imager (WFI) on the MPG/ESO 2.2m telescope at La Silla, Chile during 17-22 March 2007. (2 data files).
