  • Effect of line-of-sight inclinations on the observation of solar activity cycle: Lessons for CoRoT & Kepler
CoRoT and Kepler missions are collecting data of solar-like oscillating stars of unprecedented quality. Moreover, thanks to the length of the time series, we are able to study their seismic variability. In this work we use numerical simulations based on the last 3 solar cycles to analyze the light curves as a function of the line-of-sight

  • Discovery of Tidal Tails Around the Distant Globular Cluster Palomar 14
We report the detection of a pair of degree-long tidal tails associated with the globular cluster Palomar 14, using images obtained at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope. We reveal a power-law departure from a King profile at large distances to the cluster center. The density map constructed with the optimal matched filter technique shows a nearly

  • Discovery of an Accreting Millisecond Pulsar in the Eclipsing Binary System SWIFT J1749.4-2807
We report on the discovery and the timing analysis of the first eclipsing accretion-powered millisecond X-ray pulsar (AMXP): SWIFT J1749.4-2807. The neutron star rotates at a frequency of ~517.9 Hz and is in a binary system with an orbital period of 8.8 hr and a projected semimajor axis of ~1.90 lt-s. Assuming a neutron star between 0.8 and 2.2 M

  • Discovery of a T dwarf + white dwarf binary system
We present the discovery of the first T dwarf + white dwarf binary system LSPM 1459+0857 AB, confirmed through common proper motion and spectroscopy. The white dwarf is a high proper motion object from the LSPM catalogue that we confirm spectroscopically to be a relatively cool (Teff= 5535 ± 45 K) and magnetic (B˜ 2 MG) hydrogen-rich white dwarf

  • Dark Matter Decay and Annihilation in the Local Universe: Clues from Fermi
We present all-sky simulated Fermi maps of γ-rays from dark matter (DM) decay and annihilation in the local universe. The DM distribution is obtained from a constrained cosmological simulation of the neighboring large-scale structure provided by the CLUES project. The DM fields of density and density squared are then taken as an input for the Fermi

  • Counts-in-cylinders in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey with Comparisons to N-body Simulations
Environmental statistics provide a necessary means of comparing the properties of galaxies in different environments, and a vital test of models of galaxy formation within the prevailing hierarchical cosmological model. We explore counts-in-cylinders, a common statistic defined as the number of companions of a particular galaxy found within a given
