  • A measurement of galaxy halo mass from the surrounding H I Lyα absorption
We measure the dark matter halo masses of ≈ 2.36 UV colour-selected star-forming galaxies by matching the observed median H I Lyα absorption around them, as observed in the spectra of background QSOs, to the absorption around haloes above a given mass in cosmological simulations. Focusing on transverse separations 0-2 proper Mpc (pMpc) and line-of

  • A long-term X-ray monitoring of the ultraluminous X-ray source NGC 5408 X-1 with Swift reveals the presence of dips but no orbital period
NGC 5408 X-1 is a well-studied ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX) that has been seen to emit in X-rays persistently above the Eddington limit of a stellar mass black hole for years. In this paper we report on the most extensive X-ray monitoring of a ULX, using more than 4 yr of observations from the Swift satellite. We find that the 115 d periodicity

  • A Characterization of the Diffuse Galactic Emissions at Large Angular Scales Using the Tenerife Data
The Anomalous microwave emission (AME) has been proved to be an important component of the Galactic diffuse emission in the range from 20 to 60 GHz. To discriminate between different models of AME low frequency microwave data from 10 to 20 GHz are needed. We present here a re-analysis of published and un-published Tenerife data from 10 to 33 GHz at

  • Visible and near-infrared observations of asteroid 2012 DA14 during its closest approach of February 15, 2013
Context. Near-Earth asteroid 2012 DA14 made its closest approach on February 15, 2013, when it passed at a distance of 27 700 km from the Earth's surface. It was the first time an asteroid of moderate size was predicted to approach that close to the Earth, becoming bright enough to permit a detailed study from ground-based telescopes. Aims

  • Undressing M87 by Exposing its Most Private Globulars
We present a multiwavelength photometric analysis of the innermost (3×3 kpc2) Globular Clusters (GCs) of M87. Their Spectral Energy Distributions (SEDs) were built with J and Ks imaging obtained with NaCo at the VLT, along with HST UV-optical archival data. Using both Galatic GC templates and stellar population models, we derived ages (> 10 Gyr)

  • Two Super-Earths Orbiting the Solar Analog HD 41248 on the Edge of a 7:5 Mean Motion Resonance
There are a growing number of multi-planet systems known to be orbiting their host stars with orbital periods that place them in mean motion resonances (MMRs). These systems are generally in first-order resonances and dynamical studies have focused their efforts on understanding the origin and evolution of such dynamically resonant
