  • Multiwavelength observations of Mrk 501 in 2008
Context. Blazars are variable sources on various timescales over a broad energy range spanning from radio to very high energy (>100 GeV, hereafter VHE). Mrk 501 is one of the brightest blazars at TeV energies and has been extensively studied since its first VHE detection in 1996. However, most of the γ-ray studies performed on Mrk 501 during the

  • MULTI-WAVELENGTH STUDY OF THE POPULATION OF GALAXIES IN INTERMEDIATE-REDSHIFT CLUSTERS: THE CASE OF RXJ1257.2+4738 AT Z~0.9
``Clusters of galaxies are the largest virialised systems in the Universe'' is one of the most common statements in the framework of galaxy clusters research. This occurs because such gravitationally bound structures become ideal laboratories to directly study their baryon content (intracluster medium and galaxies) and to indirectly measure their

  • Morphology and Dynamics of Solar Prominences from 3D MHD Simulations
In this paper we present a numerical study of the time evolution of solar prominences embedded in sheared magnetic arcades. The prominence is represented by a density enhancement in a background-stratified atmosphere and is connected to the photosphere through the magnetic field. By solving the ideal magnetohydrodynamic equations in three

  • Mid-IR Spectra of Type Ia SN 2014J in M82 Spanning the First 4 Months
We present a time series of 8-13 μm spectra and photometry for SN 2014J obtained 57, 81, 108, and 137 days after the explosion using CanariCam on the Gran Telescopio Canarias. This is the first mid-IR time series ever obtained for a Type Ia supernova (SN Ia). These observations can be understood within the framework of the delayed detonation model

  • Massive OB stars at varying Z
Massive stars play a key role in environments with very different metallicities. To interpret the role of massive stars in these systems we have to know their properties at different metallicities. The Local Group offers an excellent laboratory to this aim.

  • Mass accretion rates from multiband photometry in the Carina Nebula: the case of Trumpler 14
Context. We present a study of the mass accretion rates of pre-main sequence (PMS) stars in the cluster Trumpler 14 (Tr 14) in the Carina Nebula. Using optical multiband photometry we were able to identify 356 PMS stars showing Hα excess emission with equivalent width EW(Hα) > 20 Å. We interpret this observational feature as an indication that
