  • The IAC Stripe 82 Legacy Project: a wide-area survey for faint surface brightness astronomy
We present new deep co-adds of data taken within Stripe 82 of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS), especially stacked to reach the faintest surface brightness limits of this data set. Stripe 82 covers 275 ° ^2 within -50° ≤ RA ≤ +60° and -1.25° ≤ Dec. ≤ +1.25°. We discuss the steps of our reduction which puts special emphasis on preserving the

  • The HerMES submillimetre local and low-redshift luminosity functions
We used wide-area surveys over 39 deg2 by the HerMES (Herschel Multi-tiered Extragalactic Survey) collaboration, performed with the Herschel Observatory SPIRE multiwavelength camera, to estimate the low-redshift, 0.02 z 0.5, monochromatic luminosity functions (LFs) of galaxies at 250, 350 and 500 μm. Within this redshift interval, we detected

  • The ELM Survey. VII. Orbital Properties of Low-Mass White Dwarf Binaries
We present the discovery of 15 extremely low-mass (5\lt {log}g\lt 7) white dwarf (WD) candidates, 9 of which are in ultra-compact double-degenerate binaries. Our targeted extremely low-mass Survey sample now includes 76 binaries. The sample has a lognormal distribution of orbital periods with a median period of 5.4 hr. The velocity amplitudes imply

  • The distribution of atomic hydrogen in EAGLE galaxies: morphologies, profiles, and H I holes
We compare the mass and internal distribution of atomic hydrogen (H I) in 2200 present-day central galaxies with Mstar > 1010 M⊙ from the 100 Mpc EAGLE `Reference' simulation to observational data. Atomic hydrogen fractions are corrected for self-shielding using a fitting formula from radiative transfer simulations and for the presence of molecular

  • The ALHAMBRA Survey: Evolution of Galaxy Spectral Segregation
We study the clustering of galaxies as a function of spectral type and redshift in the range 0.35 z 1.1 using data from the Advanced Large Homogeneous Area Medium Band Redshift Astronomical (ALHAMBRA) survey. The data cover 2.381 deg2 in 7 fields, after applying a detailed angular selection mask, with accurate photometric redshifts {{[}}{σ }z\lt

  • Subpercent constraints on the cosmological temperature evolution
The redshift dependence of the cosmic microwave background temperature is one of the key cosmological observables. In the standard cosmological model, one has T (z )=T0(1 +z ) , where T0 is the present-day temperature. Deviations from this behavior would imply the presence of new physics. Here we discuss how the combination of all currently
