  • A new look inside planetary nebula LoTr 5: a long-period binary with hints of a possible third component
LoTr 5 is a planetary nebula with an unusual long-period binary central star. As far as we know, the pair consists of a rapidly rotating G-type star and a hot star, which is responsible for the ionization of the nebula. The rotation period of the G-type star is 5.95 d and the orbital period of the binary is now known to be ˜2700 d, one of the

  • A molecular gas-rich GRB host galaxy at the peak of cosmic star formation
We report the detection of the CO(3-2) emission line from the host galaxy of gamma-ray burst (GRB) 080207 at z = 2.086. This is the first detection of molecular gas in emission from a GRB host galaxy beyond redshift 1. We find this galaxy to be rich in molecular gas with a mass of 1.1 × 10^{11} M_{{\odot }} assuming αCO = 4.36 M_{{\odot }} (K km s^

  • Timing the formation and assembly of early-type galaxies via spatially resolved stellar populations analysis
To investigate star formation and assembly processes of massive galaxies, we present here a spatially resolved stellar population analysis of a sample of 45 elliptical galaxies (Es) selected from the Calar Alto Legacy Integral Field Area survey. We find rather flat age and [Mg/Fe] radial gradients, weakly dependent on the effective velocity

  • THICK DISCS AND TRUNCATIONS IN SPIRAL GALAXIES
Our understanding of the evolution of galaxies within their optical radius has made great advances in the last decades. These have been achieved by analysing in detail the internal secular processes, the star formation history, and the Interstellar medium. However, the study of galaxy outskirts, so-called low surface brightness science, is still in

  • The Updated BaSTI Stellar Evolution Models and Isochrones. I. Solar-scaled Calculations
We present an updated release of the BaSTI (a Bag of Stellar Tracks and Isochrones) stellar model and isochrone library for a solar-scaled heavy element distribution. The main input physics that have been changed from the previous BaSTI release include the solar metal mixture, electron conduction opacities, a few nuclear reaction rates, bolometric

  • The SUrvey for Pulsars and Extragalactic Radio Bursts - II. New FRB discoveries and their follow-up
We report the discovery of four Fast Radio Bursts (FRBs) in the ongoing SUrvey for Pulsars and Extragalactic Radio Bursts at the Parkes Radio Telescope: FRBs 150610, 151206, 151230 and 160102. Our real-time discoveries have enabled us to conduct extensive, rapid multimessenger follow-up at 12 major facilities sensitive to radio, optical, X-ray
