  • Optical studies of the X-ray transient XTE J2123-058: Phase resolved spectroscopy
We present time-resolved spectroscopy of the soft X-ray transient XTE J2123-058 in outburst. Spectral coverage of 3700-6700A was achieved spanning two orbits of the binary. The strongest emission lines are HeII 4686A and CIII/NIII 4640A (Bowen blend). Other weak emission lines of HeII and CIV are present and Balmer lines show a complex structure

  • Observation and Interpretation of Meteoroid Impact Flashes on the Moon
The first unambiguous detection of meteoroids impacting the night side of the Moon was obtained during the 1999 Leonid storm. Up to eight optical flashes were recorded with CCD video cameras attached to small telescopes on November 18, 1999. Six impacts were videotaped by at least two independent observers at the same times and lunar locations

  • Model Photospheres for Late-Type Stars from the Inversion of High-Resolution Spectroscopic Observations: Groombridge 1830 and ɛ Eridani
An inversion technique to recover LTE one-dimensional model photospheres for late-type stars, which was previously applied to the Sun by Allende Prieto et al. in 1998, is now employed to reconstruct, semiempirically, the photospheres of cooler dwarfs: the metal-poor Groombridge 1830 and the active star of solar metallicity ɛ Eridani. The model

  • Kinematics of Ionized and Molecular Hydrogen in the Core of M100
We present high angular and velocity resolution two-dimensional kinematic observations in the spectral lines of Hα and CO J=1-->0 of the circumnuclear starburst region in the barred spiral galaxy M100, and compare them with kinematics derived from our previously published numerical modeling. The Hα data, fully sampled and at subarcsecond resolution

  • Faint Emission Lines and Temperature (Esteban+ 1999)
We present echelle spectroscopy in the 3500-10300Å range of the Hourglass Nebula, which is embedded in the Galactic H II region M8. The data were obtained using the 2.1m telescope at Observatorio Astronomico Nacional in San Pedro Mqrtir, Baja California. We have measured the intensities of 274 emission lines, in particular 88 permitted lines of C+
