  • First measurement of the total gravitational quadrupole moment of a black widow companion
We present the first measurement of the gravitational quadrupole moment of the companion star of a spider pulsar, namely the black widow PSR J2051-0827. To this end, we have re-analysed radio timing data using a new model that is able to account for periastron precession caused by tidal and centrifugal deformations of the star as well as by general

  • Explaining the chemical trajectories of accreted and in-situ halo stars of the Milky Way
The Milky Way underwent its last significant merger ten billion years ago, when the Gaia-Enceladus-Sausage (GES) was accreted. Accreted GES stars and progenitor stars born prior to the merger make up the bulk of the inner halo. Even though these two main populations of halo stars have similar durations of star formation prior to their merger, they

  • EX draconis: using eclipses to separate outside-in and inside-out outbursts
We present a study of the eclipses in the accreting white dwarf EX draconis (EX Dra) during TESS Cycles 14 and 15. During both of the two outbursts present in this data set, the eclipses undergo a hysteretic loop in eclipse-depth/out-of-eclipse-flux space. In each case, the direction in which the loops are executed strongly suggests an outburst

  • Dust Environment Model of the Interstellar Comet 2I/Borisov
2I/Borisov is the first interstellar comet discovered on 2019 August 30, and it soon showed a coma and a dust tail. This study reports the results of images obtained at the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo telescope, on La Palma—Canary Islands, in 2019 November and December. The images have been obtained with the R filter in order to apply our dust

  • Doppler tomographic measurement of the nodal precession of WASP-33b
WASP-33b is a retrograde hot Jupiter with a period of 1.2 d orbiting a rapidly rotating and pulsating A-type star. A previous study found that the transit chord of WASP-33b had changed slightly from 2008 to 2014 based on Doppler tomographic measurements. They attributed the change to orbital precession caused by the non-zero oblateness of the host

  • Doppler Imaging and Differential Rotation of σ2 Coronae Borealis Using SONG
We present new Doppler images of both components of the double-lined binary σ 2 CrB, based on the high-resolution spectroscopic data collected during 11 nights in 2015 March-April. The observed spectra form two independent data sets with sufficient phase coverage. We apply the least-squares deconvolution to all observed spectra to obtain high
