  • IRAM 30-m-EMIR redshift search of z = 3─4 lensed dusty starbursts selected from the HerBS sample
    Using the Eight MIxer Receiver (EMIR) instrument on the Institut de RadioAstronomie Millimétrique (IRAM) 30-m telescope, we conducted a spectroscopic redshift search of seven z phot ∼ 4 submillimetre bright galaxies selected from the Herschel Bright Sources sample with fluxes at 500 μm greater than 80 mJy. For four sources, we obtained

  • Individual Estimates of the Virial Factor in 10 Quasars: Implications on the Kinematics of the Broad-line Region
    Assuming a gravitational origin for the Fe iiiλλ2039-2113 redshift and using microlensing based estimates of the size of the region emitting this feature, we obtain individual measurements of the virial factor, f, in 10 quasars. The average values for the Balmer lines, $\langle {f}_{{\rm{H}}\beta }\rangle =0.43\pm 0.20$ and $\langle {f}_{{\rm{H}}

  • IGAPS: the merged IPHAS and UVEX optical surveys of the northern Galactic plane
    The INT Galactic Plane Survey (IGAPS) is the merger of the optical photometric surveys, IPHAS and UVEX, based on data from the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT) obtained between 2003 and 2018. Here, we present the IGAPS point source catalogue. It contains 295.4 million rows providing photometry in the filters, i, r, narrow-band Hα, g, and U RGO. The

  • HST Survey of the Orion Nebula Cluster in the H2O 1.4 μm Absorption Band. III. The Population of Substellar Binary Companions
    We present new results concerning the substellar binary population in the Orion Nebula Cluster (ONC). Using the Karhunen-Loève Image Projection algorithm, we have reprocessed images taken with the IR channel of the Wide Field Camera 3 mounted on the Hubble Space Telescope to unveil faint, close companions in the wings of the stellar point-spread

  • Helium abundances and its radial gradient from the spectra of H II regions and ring nebulae of the Milky Way
    We determine the radial abundance gradient of helium in the disc of the Galaxy from published spectra of 19 H II regions and ring nebulae surrounding massive O-type stars. We revise the Galactocentric distances of the objects considering Gaia DR2 parallaxes (Gaia Collaboration 2018) and determine the physical conditions and the ionic abundance of

  • Galaxy classification: deep learning on the OTELO and COSMOS databases
    Context. The accurate classification of hundreds of thousands of galaxies observed in modern deep surveys is imperative if we want to understand the universe and its evolution. Aims: Here, we report the use of machine learning techniques to classify early- and late-type galaxies in the OTELO and COSMOS databases using optical and infrared
