  • Testing two-component models on very high-energy gamma-ray-emitting BL Lac objects
Context. It has become evident that one-zone synchrotron self-Compton models are not always adequate for very high-energy (VHE) gamma-ray-emitting blazars. While two-component models perform better, they are difficult to constrain due to the large number of free parameters. Aims: In this work, we make a first attempt at taking into account the

  • TESS Reveals a Short-period Sub-Neptune Sibling (HD 86226c) to a Known Long-period Giant Planet
The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite mission was designed to find transiting planets around bright, nearby stars. Here, we present the detection and mass measurement of a small, short-period (≍4 days) transiting planet around the bright (V = 7.9), solar-type star HD 86226 (TOI-652, TIC 22221375), previously known to host a long-period (∼1600

  • Stellar populations and physical properties of starbursts in the antennae galaxy from self-consistent modelling of MUSE spectra
We have modelled the stellar and nebular continua and emission-line intensity ratios of massive stellar populations in the Antennae galaxy using high resolution and self-consistent libraries of model H II regions around central clusters of ageing stars. The model libraries are constructed using the stellar population synthesis code, STARBURST99

  • Soft X-ray emission lines in the X-ray binary Swift J1858.6-0814 observed with XMM-Newton Reflection Grating Spectrometer: disc atmosphere or wind?
We find soft X-ray emission lines from the X-ray binary Swift J1858.6-0814 in data from XMM-NewtonReflection Grating Spectrometer (RGS): N VII, O VII, and O VIII, as well as notable residuals short of a detection at Ne IX and other higher ionization transitions. These could be associated with the disc atmosphere, as in accretion disc corona sources

  • SMASHing the low surface brightness SMC
The periphery of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) can unlock important information regarding galaxy formation and evolution in interacting systems. Here, we present a detailed study of the extended stellar structure of the SMC using deep colour-magnitude diagrams, obtained as part of the Survey of the MAgellanic Stellar History (SMASH). Special

  • Simulations Predicting the Ability of Multi-color Simultaneous Photometry to Distinguish TESS Candidate Exoplanets from False Positives
The Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) is currently concluding its 2 yr primary science mission searching 85% of the sky for transiting exoplanets. TESS has already discovered well over one thousand TESS objects of interest (TOIs), but these candidate exoplanets must be distinguished from astrophysical false positives using other
