  • An extensive spectroscopic time series of three Wolf-Rayet stars - II. A search for wind asymmetries in the dust-forming WC7 binary WR137
We present the results of a 4-month, spectroscopic campaign of the Wolf-Rayet dust-making binary, WR137. We detect only small-amplitude random variability in the C III λ5696 emission line and its integrated quantities (radial velocity, equivalent width, skewness, and kurtosis) that can be explained by stochastic clumps in the wind of the WC star

  • K2-280 b - a low density warm sub-Saturn around a mildly evolved star
We present an independent discovery and detailed characterization of K2-280 b, a transiting low density warm sub-Saturn in a 19.9-d moderately eccentric orbit (e = $0.35_{-0.04}^{+0.05}$ ) from K2 campaign 7. A joint analysis of high precision HARPS, HARPS-N, and FIES radial velocity measurements and K2 photometric data indicates that K2-280 b has

  • NIHAO XXIV: rotation- or pressure-supported systems? Simulated Ultra Diffuse Galaxies show a broad distribution in their stellar kinematics
In recent years, a new window on galaxy evolution opened, thanks to the increasing discovery of galaxies with a low-surface brightness, such as Ultra Diffuse Galaxies (UDGs). The formation mechanism of these systems is still a much debated question and so are their kinematical properties. In this work, we address this topic by analysing the stellar

  • The 4-m New Robotic Telescope (NRT): status of the optomechanical systems
The New Robotic Telescope (NRT) is currently under conceptual phase design, will be sited on the Observatory of Roque de los Muchachos (ORM) in La Palma (Canary Islands), and will be the largest fully robotic telescope in the world when it enters into operation in a five years time. A collecting area four times larger than the current Liverpool

  • Abell 30 - A binary central star among the born-again planetary nebulae
Eight planetary nebulae have been identified as 'born-again', a class of object typified by knotty secondary ejecta having low masses (${\sim}10^{-4}$ M ☉) with nearly no hydrogen. Abell 30, the archetype of the class, also belongs to a small subset of planetary nebulae that exhibit extreme abundance discrepancy factors (where Abell 30 is the most
