  • AGN feedback and chemical enrichment on galaxy scales
Giant (>100 kpc) nebulae associated with active galaxies provide rich information about the circumgalactic medium (CGM) around galaxies, its link with the interstellar medium (ISM) of the hosts and the mechanisms involved in their evolution. We have studied the giant nebula associated with the Teacup (z=0.085) obscured quasar based on VLT MUSE

  • A special mentoring program for Master's students in astrophysics promoting DEI
In the pursuit of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the field of Astrophysics and High Energy Physics, a group of young researchers at the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) and the Institute of Cosmos Science (ICCUB), under the scope of the DEI-ICCUB commission, has built a mentoring program for students in the Master of Astrophysics

  • A new way to measure the distance to NGC1052-DF2
We have employed a novel way to measure the distance to NGC1052-DF2, using the internal stellar velocity dispersions (σ) of its globular clusters (GCs). We obtained deep (15.1 h), R = 18 200, calcium triplet integrated-light spectra for 10 GCs in NGC1052-DF2 using FLAMES GIRAFFE on VLT. For five GCs, we measured the σ values, along with precision

  • A Disintegrating Rocky Planet with Prominent Comet-like Tails around a Bright Star
We report the discovery of BD+05 4868 Ab, a transiting exoplanet orbiting a bright (V = 10.16) K-dwarf (TIC 466376085) with a period of 1.27 days. Observations from NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite reveal variable transit depths and asymmetric transit profiles that are characteristic of comet-like tails formed by dusty effluents

  • A catalogue of Mg, Ca and C abundances from the X-shooter Spectral Library: benchmark for improving the modelling of stellar population models
The completeness of stellar spectral libraries across all evolutionary phases, parameter space and chemical abundances, is essential to build more sophisticated stellar population synthesis models to decode information from galaxy spectra. On the one hand, due to distinct nucleosynthesis channels, the comparison between magnesium and calcium can

  • 2D surface brightness modelling of large 2MASS galaxies II: the role of classical bulges and pseudobulges on galaxy scaling relations and its implication for supermassive black hole formation
We have generated 2D-multicomponent surface brightness (SB) modelling for 100 galaxies in the Large Galaxy Atlas (LGA) together with 19 nearby cD galaxies using the near-infrared (NIR) images from 2MASS ( $J, H, {\, \rm and}\, K_s$). Our final sample of 119 galaxies includes cD galaxies, Virgo cluster galaxies, group galaxies, and field galaxies
