  • On the Relation between Radio and Non-Radio Elliptical Galaxies
Empirical evidence suggests that elliptical galaxies hosting a radio source may not be different from normal non-radio ellipticals. To test this possibility, we use Monte Carlo simulations to reproduce the distribution of radio galaxies in the radio-optical luminosity plane. The input parameters of the simulation are the optical luminosity function

  • On The Parent Population of Radio Galaxies and the FR I--II Dichotomy
The possibility of radio galaxies being random sample of otherwise normal elliptical galaxies is tested. Starting with the observed optical luminosity functions for elliptical galaxies, it is shown that the probability of an elliptical forming a radio source is a continuous, increasing function of optical luminosity, precisely proportional to

  • On the Origin of the IR Emission in Active Galactic Nuclei
The relation between the X-ray, coronal line and IR emission in a sample of the brightest known Seyfert galaxies is analyzed. A close relationship between the absorption-corrected soft X-ray emission and both the mid-IR and the coronal line emission is found for the Seyfert 2-type objects in the sample. The coronal line and X-ray emission both

  • Nuclear Star Formation in the Hotspot Galaxy NGC 2903
We analyze the star formation properties of the hotspot galaxy NGC 2903 using high resolution Hubble Space Telescope and adaptive optics observations. The circumnuclear star formation in NGC 2903 shows a ringlike morphology with an approximate diameter of 625 pc. For the first time, the infrared hotspots have been resolved into individual young

  • Nuclear Components in the Bulges of Disk Galaxies
By combining surface brightness profiles from images taken in the HST/NICMOS F160W and ground-based K bands, we have obtained NIR profiles for a well studied sample of inclined disk galaxies, spanning radial ranges from 20 pc to a few kpc. We fit PSF-convolved Sersic-plus-exponential laws to the profiles, and compare the results with the fits to
