  • Luminous Blue Variables in the local universe
Preliminary results of a candidate luminous blue variable (LBV) search made in a region of M33 are presented. The objects were found with narrow band filter images centered on characteristic emission lines of these objects. We show that the GTC, with the appropriate instrumentation, would generate important results through the analysis of high

  • Infrared photometry of a sunspot near the disk center
A time series of broadband images of a sunspot near the disk center was obtained simultaneously in two wavelength bands at 0.56 mu m and 1.55 mu m at the German VTT on June 17, 1998. We computed intensity difference images of the best frame pairs which reveal information about the facular distribution in the present field of view. Faculae are found

  • Hot Subdwarfs: Magnetic, Oscillatory and Other Physical Properties
Hot subdwarf stars (hot sds) are blue subluminous objects. Only a few determinations are available to date regarding the study of such aspects as rotation, microturbulent velocities or the magnetic nature of these objects. Over 26 sdBs are known to date to be multiperiodic rapid oscillators. This project presents preliminary results of new

  • Gamma-rays from massive stars in Cygnus and Orion
Radioactive 26Al, ejected by massive stars through winds and supernova explosions, leads to γ-ray line emission that can serve as a probe of the interstellar environment in and near young star clusters. The ˜ 1 Myr decay time of 26Al is long enough to allow transport over significant distances, which can cause substantial angular offsets between γ
