  • EURONEAR - First Results at Pic du Midi
EURONEAR - The European Near Earth Asteroid Research is a project initiated recently by a small team presently based in France, Romania, and South Africa. It envisions to build a coordinated network which will follow-up and recover Potentially Hazardous Asteroids (PHAs) and Near Earth Asteroids (NEAs), using time available at 1m class telescopes in

  • European component of the AIDA mission: science investigation of a binary system
Hera provides a robust and cost-effective means to perform a planetary defense validation test with a solid balance between risk and innovation. In the frame of the AIDA collaboration, Hera contributes to a truly international planetary defense initiative. It will bring completely new knowledge and insights on asteroid science that will be of great

  • Evershed Clouds as Precursors of Moving Magnetic Features around Sunspots
The relation between the Evershed flow and moving magnetic features (MMFs) is studied using high-cadence, simultaneous spectropolarimetric measurements of a sunspot in visible (630.2 nm) and near-infrared (1565 nm) lines. Doppler velocities, magnetograms, and total linear polarization maps are calculated from the observed Stokes profiles. We follow

  • Evidence for an offset active nucleus in the Seyfert galaxy NGC3227
THE active nuclei of Seyfert 1 galaxies are characterized by a small (˜0.03 pc) region of intense broad emission lines, indicative of gas moving at extremely high velocities and ionized by a non-thermal radiation field. These spectral features are usually explained by invoking the presence of a central supermassive black hole. Here we present two

  • Evidence for quiescent synchrotron emission in the black hole X-ray transient Swift J1357.2-0933
We present high time resolution ULTRACAM optical and NOTCam infrared observations of the edge-on black hole X-ray transient Swift J1357.2-0933. Our data taken in 2012 and 2013 show the system to be at its pre-outburst magnitude and so the system is in quiescence. In contrast to other X-ray transients, the quiescent light curves of Swift J1357.2
