  • Revisiting the (V/sigma,epsilon) anisotropy diagram of early-type galaxies using integral-field kinematics
We use integral-field observation of the stellar kinematics obtained with SAURON in combination with Schwarzschild dynamical models to revisit our understanding of the classic (V/sigma,epsilon) anisotropy diagram of early-type galaxies.

  • Relativistic Outflow in CXOCDFS J033260.0-274748
In this Letter we report the detection of a strong and extremely blueshifted X-ray absorption feature in the 1 Ms Chandra spectrum of CXOCDFS J033260.0-274748, a quasar at z=2.579 with L2-10keV~4×1044 ergs s-1. The broad absorption feature at ~6.3 keV in the observed frame can be fitted either as an absorption edge at 20.9 keV or as a broad

  • Polynomial Approximants for the Calculation of Polarization Profiles in the He I 10830 Å Multiplet
The He I multiplet at 10830 Å is formed in the incomplete Paschen-Back regime for typical conditions found in solar and stellar atmospheres. The positions and strengths of the various components that form the Zeeman structure of this multiplet in the Paschen-Back regime are approximated here by polynomials. The fitting errors are smaller than ~10-2

  • Planck-LFI: Instrument Design and Ground Calibration Strategy
The ESA Planck satellite is designed to achieve precision imaging of the Cosmic Microwave Background with an unprecedented combination of angular resolution, sensitivity, spectral range and sky coverage. The Low Frequency Instrument is one of two complementary instruments, and covers 30, 44, and 70 GHz with an array of wideband pseudo-correlation

  • On the nature of two low-dot{M} X-ray bursters: 1RXS J170854.4-321857 and 1RXS J171824.2-402934
We carried out Chandra observations of two low-luminosity low-mass X-ray binaries, 1RXS J170854.4-321857 and 1RXS J171824.2-402934, for which previously single X-ray bursts were detected with the Wide Field Cameras (WFCs) on board BeppoSAX. Both were detected in our Chandra observations in an actively accreting state three to eight years after the

  • Metallicity of the Monoceros Stream from A/F-type Stars
We have obtained metallicity estimates for a sample of A/F-type stars that appear to be members of the recently discovered Monoceros Stream. This sample of candidate main-sequence turn-off stars was chosen from the Sloan Digitized Sky Survey southern program spectra. The average metallicity, = -1.37 ± 0.04, is consistent with the abundance of six
