  • VIP - 2D Vector Spectropolarimetry of the Solar Atmosphere near the Diffraction Limit
The KIS/IAA Vector Imaging Polarimeter (VIP) is a new instrument for two-dimensional spectropolarimetry of the solar atmosphere. It is used with TESOS, the triple etalon Fabry-Perot interferometer installed at the German Vacuum Tower Telescope of Observatorio del Teide (Tenerife, Spain). The polarimeter is based on a pair of nematic liquid crystal

  • Unravelling the Role of the SW Sextantis Stars in the Evolution of Cataclysmic Variables
SW Sextantis stars are a relatively large group of cataclysmic variables whose properties contradict all predictions made by the current CV evolution theories. Very little is known about the properties of their accreting white dwarfs and their donor stars, as the stellar components are usually outshone by an extremely bright accretion flow

  • Truncated stellar disks in the near infrared. I. Observations
We present NIR surface photometry of 11 edge-on galaxies obtained in the course of a long term project aimed at analysing the occurrence and type of the truncation of the outer disks. Observations were carried out at the 1.5 m CST (Carlos Sánchez Telescope) in Tenerife (Spain) using the CAIN infrared camera. 7 galaxies exhibit clear truncation on

  • Truncated stellar discs in the near infrared. II. Statistical properties and interpretation
The results obtained in Paper I are used to study possible relationships between the truncation radius of stellar discs in the NIR and structural parameters of the galaxies. The NIR truncation radius is larger for brighter galaxies, being proportional to V_mc with c ≈ 3/2, and with Vm being the asymptotic rotation velocity at large radii (when the

  • The surface composition of Jupiter Trojans: Visible and near-infrared survey of dynamical families
Asteroid dynamical families are supposed to be formed from the collisional disruption of parent bodies. As a consequence, the investigation of the surface properties of small and large family members may give some hints on the nature of the dynamical group, the internal composition of the parent body, and the role played by space weathering

  • The structure of galactic disks. Studying late-type spiral galaxies using SDSS
Using imaging data from the SDSS survey, we present the g' and r' radial stellar light distribution of a complete sample of ~90 face-on to intermediate inclined, nearby, late-type (Sb-Sdm) spiral galaxies. The surface brightness profiles are reliable (1 σ uncertainty less than 0.2 mag) down to μ˜27 mag/''. Only ~10% of all galaxies have a normal
