  • Chemical Clues on the Formation of Planetary Systems: C/O Versus Mg/Si for HARPS GTO Sample
Theoretical studies suggest that C/O and Mg/Si are the most important elemental ratios in determining the mineralogy of terrestrial planets. The C/O ratio controls the distribution of Si among carbide and oxide species, while Mg/Si gives information about the silicate mineralogy. We present a detailed and uniform study of C, O, Mg, and Si

  • Aurorae Observed at the Canary Islands
Descriptions of eleven aurorae observed in the Canary Islands during the period 1770 - 2010 have been found in different documents. Most of them are coincident with periods of strong solar activity, with the geomagnetic latitude playing a minor role. Coronal mass ejections are the most probable solar source of these low-latitude events. The absence

  • Asteroseismology of solar-type stars with Kepler: III. Ground-based data
We report on the ground-based follow-up program of spectroscopic and photometric observations of solar-like asteroseismic targets for the Kepler space mission. These stars constitute a large group of more than a thousand objects which are the subject of an intensive study by the Kepler Asteroseismic Science Consortium Working Group 1 (KASC WG-1)

  • Asteroseismology of solar-type stars with Kepler I: Data analysis
We report on the first asteroseismic analysis of solar-type stars observed by Kepler. Observations of three G-type stars, made at one-minute cadence during the first 33.5 days of science operations, reveal high signal-to-noise solar-like oscillation spectra in all three stars: About 20 modes of oscillation can clearly be distinguished in each star

  • Advances in solar rotation rate inferences: Unstructured grid inversions and improved rotational splittings
We present a new inversion methodology that adapts the inversion grid in both radius and co-latitude to the data set and solves the inversion problem through an iterative procedure. This method was tested on state-of-the-art global mode frequency splittings to assess the solar interior rotation rate and its temporal variation. We also explore the
