  • Nucleosynthesis and the Inhomogeneous Chemical Evolution of the Carina Dwarf Galaxy
The detailed abundances of 23 chemical elements in nine bright red giant branch stars in the Carina dwarf spheroidal galaxy are presented based on high-resolution spectra gathered at the Very Large Telescope (VLT) and Magellan telescopes. A spherical model atmospheres analysis is applied using standard methods (local thermodynamic equilibrium and

  • New ultracool subdwarfs identified in large-scale surveys using Virtual Observatory tools. I. UKIDSS LAS DR5 vs. SDSS DR7
Aims: The aim of the project is to improve our knowledge of the low-mass and low-metallicity population to investigate the influence of metallicity on the stellar (and substellar) mass function. Methods: We present the results of a photometric and proper motion search aimed at discovering ultracool subdwarfs in large-scale surveys. We employed and

  • New redshifts for Abell 1758N galaxies (Boschin+, 2012)
Multi-object spectroscopic observations of A1758N were carried out at the TNG, a 4m-class telescope, in May 2008 and May 2009. We used DOLORES/MOS with the LR-B Grism 1, yielding a dispersion of 187Å/mm. The detector is a 2048x2048 pixels E2V CCD, with a pixel size of 13.5um. In total, we observed four MOS masks (one in 2008 and three in 2009) for

  • Near-IR brightening of the blazar CTA 102 (2230+114) observed by the GASP
The GLAST-AGILE Support Program (GASP) of the Whole Earth Blazar Telescope (WEBT) reports on the recent observation of a strong near-IR brightening of the gamma-loud quasar CTA 102. This is one of the 28 blazars for which the GASP performs a long-term, multiwavelength monitoring. Observations performed at the Teide Observatory on 2012 June 5.2 UT

  • Mrk 421 active state in 2008: the MAGIC view, simultaneous multi-wavelength observations and SSC model constrained
Context. The blazar Markarian 421 is one of the brightest TeV gamma-ray sources of the northern sky. From December 2007 until June 2008 it was intensively observed in the very high energy (VHE, E > 100 GeV) band by the single-dish Major Atmospheric Gamma-ray Imaging Cherenkov telescope (MAGIC-I). Aims: We aimed to measure the physical parameters of
