  • Recovery of the X-ray polarisation of Swift J1727.8−1613 after the soft-to-hard spectral transition
We report on the detection of X-ray polarisation in the black-hole X-ray binary Swift J1727.8−1613 during its dim hard spectral state by the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE). This is the first detection of X-ray polarisation at the transition from the soft to the hard state in an X-ray binary. We find an averaged 2-8 keV polarisation

  • Reconnaissance ultracool spectra in the Euclid Deep Fields
Context. The Euclid spacecraft has been launched and will carry out a deep survey benefiting the discovery and characterisation of ultracool dwarfs (UCDs), especially in the Euclid Deep Fields (EDFs), which the telescope will scan repeatedly throughout its mission. The photometric and spectroscopic standards in the EDFs are important benchmarks

  • Quasars with flare/eclipse-like variability identified in ZTF
Active galactic nuclei (AGNs) are known to exhibit optical/ultraviolet variability and most of them can be well modelled by the damped random walks. Physical processes that are not related to the accretion disc, such as tidal disruption events (TDEs) or moving foreground dusty clouds, can cause flare-like and eclipse-like features in the optical

  • Properties of Cosmic Deuterons Measured by the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer
NASA scientists and engineers seeking faster connectivity with their data-gathering spacecraft are moving away from radio frequency-based communication and turning to laser communications.

  • Precise characterisation of HD 15337 with CHEOPS: A laboratory for planet formation and evolution
Context. The HD 15337 (TIC 120896927, TOI-402) system was observed by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), revealing the presence of two short-period planets situated on opposite sides of the radius gap. This offers an excellent opportunity to study theories of formation and evolution, as well as to investigate internal composition and

  • OzDES Reverberation Mapping Program: Stacking analysis with Hβ, Mg II, and C IV
Reverberation mapping is the leading technique used to measure direct black hole masses outside of the local Universe. Additionally, reverberation measurements calibrate secondary mass-scaling relations used to estimate single-epoch virial black hole masses. The Australian Dark Energy Survey (OzDES) conducted one of the first multi-object
