  • Dusty Supernovae Running the Thermodynamics of the Matter Reinserted within Young and Massive Super Stellar Clusters
Following the observational and theoretical evidence that points at core-collapse supernovae (SNe) as major producers of dust, here we calculate the hydrodynamics of the matter reinserted within young and massive super stellar clusters under the assumption of gas and dust radiative cooling. The large SN rate expected in massive clusters allows for

  • DNA, wine and eclipses, the Dahamunzu affaire
In a recent book, Dodson (2009) has presented an updated impression of the Amarna period, in heavy contrast to the one lately defended by Krauss (2008) and other authors such as Reeves (2002) or Gabolde (2005), where Dodson uses the recent archaeological and epigraphical sources to offer an state of the art version of this fascinating historical

  • Density waves and star formation in grand-design spirals
Context. H II regions in the arms of spiral galaxies are indicators of recent star-forming processes. They may have been caused by the passage of the density wave or simply been created by other means near the arms. The study of these regions may give us clues to clarify the controversy about the existence of a triggering scenario, as proposed in

  • Cross-correlation of SDSS DR7 Quasars and DR10 BOSS Galaxies: The Weak Luminosity Dependence of Quasar Clustering at z ~ 0.5
We present the measurement of the two-point cross-correlation function (CCF) of 8198 Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 7 quasars and 349,608 Data Release 10 CMASS galaxies from the Baryonic Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey at 0.3 z 0.9. The CCF can be reasonably well fit by a power-law model ξQG(r) = (r/r 0)–γ on projected scales of rp = 2-25

  • Constraints on a Second Planet in the WASP-3 System
There have been previous hints that the transiting planet WASP-3b is accompanied by a second planet in a nearby orbit, based on small deviations from strict periodicity of the observed transits. Here we present 17 precise radial velocity (RV) measurements and 32 transit light curves that were acquired between 2009 and 2011. These data were used to

  • Broad-band monitoring tracing the evolution of the jet and disc in the black hole candidate X-ray binary MAXI J1659-152
MAXI J1659-152 was discovered on 2010 September 25 as a new X-ray transient, initially identified as a gamma-ray burst, but was later shown to be a new X-ray binary with a black hole as the most likely compact object. Dips in the X-ray light curves have revealed that MAXI J1659-152 is the shortest period black hole candidate identified to date
