  • Spectroscopic variability of two Oe stars
Context. The two Oe stars HD 45 314 and HD 60 848 have recently been found to exhibit very different X-ray properties: whilst HD 60 848 has an X-ray spectrum and the emission level typical of most OB stars, HD 45 314 features a much harder and brighter X-ray emission, making it a so-called γ Cas analogue. Aims: Monitoring the optical spectra could

  • Spectroscopic Confirmation of an Ultra Massive and Compact Galaxy At Z = 3.35: a Detailed Look At an Early Progenitor of Local Giant Ellipticals
We present the first spectroscopic confirmation of an ultramassive galaxy at redshift z\gt 3 using data from Keck-NIRSPEC, VLT-X-shooter, and GTC-Osiris. We detect strong [O iii] and Lyα emission, and weak [O ii], C iv, and He ii, placing C1-23152 at a spectroscopic redshift of {{z}spec}=3.351. The modeling of the emission-line-corrected spectral

  • Spectro-Polarimetric Imaging Reveals Helical Magnetic Fields in Solar Prominence Feet
Solar prominences are clouds of cool plasma levitating above the solar surface and insulated from the million-degree corona by magnetic fields. They form in regions of complex magnetic topology, characterized by non-potential fields, which can evolve abruptly, disintegrating the prominence and ejecting magnetized material into the heliosphere

  • Spectral Softening Between Outburst and Quiescence In The Neutron Star Low-Mass X-Ray Binary SAX J1750.8-2900
Tracking the spectral evolution of transiently accreting neutron stars between outburst and quiescence probes relatively poorly understood accretion regimes. Such studies are challenging because they require frequent monitoring of sources with luminosities below the thresholds of current all-sky X-ray monitors. We present the analysis of over 30

  • Spatially resolved molecular gas in early-type galaxies
In around ~25% of early-type galaxies (ETGs) UV emission from young stellar populations is present. Molecular gas reservoirs have been detected in these systems (e.g. Young et al. (2011), providing the fuel for this residual star-formation. The environment in which this molecular gas is found is quite different than that in spiral galaxies however

  • Seeking footprints of the primeval Universe in dwarf galaxies
We present the star formation histories (SFHs) of four isolated dwarf galaxies, Cetus, Tucana, LGS-3, and Phoenix, as a function of galactocentric radius. Our results suggest that beyond some distance from the center, there are no significative differences in fundamental properties of these galaxies, such as the star formation rate (SFR) or age
