  • Search for supersymmetry in events with soft leptons, low jet multiplicity, and missing transverse energy in proton-proton collisions at √{ s} = 8 TeV
Results are presented from a search for supersymmetric particles in scenarios with small mass splittings. The data sample corresponds to 19.7 fb-1 of proton-proton collisions recorded by the CMS experiment at √{ s} = 8 TeV. The search targets top squark (t ˜) pair production in scenarios with mass differences Δm = m (t ˜) - m (χ˜10) below the W

  • Search for supersymmetry in electroweak production with photons and large missing transverse energy in pp collisions at √{ s} = 8TeV
Results are reported from a search for supersymmetry with gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking in electroweak production. Final states with photons and large missing transverse energy (ETmiss) were examined. The data sample was collected in pp collisions at √{ s} = 8TeV with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to 7.4fb-1. The analysis

  • Search for neutral resonances decaying into a Z boson and a pair of b jets or τ leptons
A search is performed for a new resonance decaying into a lighter resonance and a Z boson. Two channels are studied, targeting the decay of the lighter resonance into either a pair of oppositely charged τ leptons or a b b ‾ pair. The Z boson is identified via its decays to electrons or muons. The search exploits data collected by the CMS experiment

  • Relative stability of two laser frequency combs for routine operation on HARPS and FOCES
We report on the installation of a laser frequency comb (LFC) at the HARPS spectrograph, which we characterize relative to a second LFC that we had brought to HARPS for testing. This allowed us for the first time to probe the relative stability of two independent astronomical LFCs over an extended wavelength range. Both LFCs covered the spectral

  • Quasars as a Tracer of Large-scale Structures in the Distant Universe
We study the dependence of the number density and properties of quasars on the background galaxy density using the currently largest spectroscopic data sets of quasars and galaxies. We construct a galaxy number density field smoothed over the variable smoothing scale of between approximately 10 and 20 h ‑1 Mpc over the redshift range 0.46 z 0.59

  • Probing the Deep End of the Milky Way with Kepler: Asteroseismic Analysis of 854 Faint Red Giants Misclassified as Cool Dwarfs
Asteroseismology has proven to be an excellent tool to determine not only global stellar properties with good precision, but also to infer the stellar structure, dynamics, and evolution for a large sample of Kepler stars. Prior to the launch of the mission, the properties of Kepler targets were inferred from broadband photometry, leading to the
