  • Photometric and spectroscopic variability of the B5IIIe star HD 171219
We analyzed the star HD 171219, one of the relatively bright Be stars observed in the seismo field of the CoRoT satellite, in order to determine its physical and pulsation characteristics. Classical Be stars are main-sequence objects of mainly B-type, whose spectra show, or have shown at some epoch, Balmer lines in emission and an infrared excess

  • Observational hints of radial migration in disc galaxies from CALIFA
Context. According to numerical simulations, stars are not always kept at their birth galactocentric distances but they have a tendency to migrate. The importance of this radial migration in shaping galactic light distributions is still unclear. However, if radial migration is indeed important, galaxies with different surface brightness (SB)

  • Observational Evidence for a Galaxy Overdensity/Protocluster at z=6.5
We present the results of our search near the end of the Reionization Epoch for faint galaxies around two close, massive Lyman-α emitters (LAEs) at redshift 6.5, discovered in the SXDS field, using very deep OSIRIS images and spectroscopy obtained at the Gran Telescopio Canarias (GTC). The luminosity function of these LAEs shows that this area is

  • New ultra metal-poor stars from SDSS: follow-up GTC medium-resolution spectroscopy
Context. The first generation of stars formed in the Galaxy left behind the chemical signatures of their nucleosynthesis in the interstellar medium, visible today in the atmospheres of low-mass stars that formed afterwards. Sampling the chemistry of those low-mass provides insight into the first stars. Aims: We aim to increase the samples of stars

  • Neutron damage of hexagonal boron nitride: h-BN
Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) was neutron damaged at an integral flux of 2.40 × 1012 n cm−2 s−1 for 1, 2, 3 and 4 h. The h-BN samples undergo a transition from sp2 to sp3 hybridization as a consequence of the neutron induced damage with the formation of cubic boron nitride (c-BN) spots, as suggested both by FT–IR and Raman spectroscopy. • Neutron bombardment of lithium bis(oxalato) borate: LiBOB
Lithium bis(oxalato) borate (LiBOB) was neutron bombarded with a flux of 2.40 × 1012 n cm−2 s−1 for 1, 2, 3 and 4 h. The neutron damaged LiBOB was studied by FT-IR and Raman spectroscopy as well as by DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry). It is shown that the neutron bombardment causes the radiolysis of the oxalate ligand of LiBOB producing
