  • Image Search Visualization in a Planetary VO
A multi-mission image search tool has been created through a collaboration between Google and NASA Ames Research Center, using Google Earth as a virtual observatory (VO) for accessing search results. Follow-on work will expand the utilization of the VO and refine the features based on user research.

  • High redshift galaxies & Lyman Alpha Emitters through gravitational lensing
The techniques and some preliminary results on the study of the luminosity function (LF) of Lyman Alpha Emitters (LAEs) through gravitational lensing (GL) are presented. Clusters of galaxies, with suitably modeled gravitational lenses, are observed using the tunable filters (TF) of the instrument OSIRIS at the GTC. The combination GLs, and the

  • Hectochelle: A Multiobject Optical Echelle Spectrograph for the MMT
The Hectochelle is an optical band, fiber-fed, multiobject echelle spectrograph deployed at the MMT Observatory on Mount Hopkins, Arizona. The optical fibers that feed the Hectochelle are positioned by the Hectospec robot positioner on the MMT f/5 focal surface, and the Hectochelle shares an optical fiber feed system with the Hectospec, a moderate

  • Ground Based Observations of Comet 103P/Hartley 2 at the time of EPOXI fly-by
In the context of the EPOXI mission, at the beginning of November 2010 the comet 103P/Hartley 2 was visited by the Deep-Impact spacecraft, that passed at only 700 km from its nucleus. To connect spatial small scales, as seen from the spacecraft, to large ones, the comet was the target of a wide campaign of remote observations involving many

  • Far-infrared constraints on the contamination by dust-obscured galaxies of high-z dropout searches
The spectral energy distributions (SED) of dusty galaxies at intermediate redshift may look similar to very high-redshift galaxies in the optical/near infrared (NIR) domain. This can lead to the contamination of high-redshift galaxy searches based on broad-band optical/NIR photometry by lower redshift dusty galaxies because both kind of galaxies
