  • European Extremely Large Telescope Site Characterization I: Overview
The site for the future European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT) is already known to be Armazones, near Paranal (Chile). The selection was based on a variety of considerations, with an important one being the quality of the atmosphere for the astronomy planned for the ELT. We present an overview of the characterization of the atmospheric

  • Earth like planets albedo variations versus continental landmass distribution
By making use of real information about the continental and oceanic surface distribution of the Earth, and cloudiness data from the International Satellite Cloud Climatology Project (ISCCP), we have studied the large-scale cloudiness behavior according to latitude and surface types (ice, water, vegetation and desert). These empirical relationships

  • Detections of transit variations in KOI 806 (Tingley+, 2011)
g' and z' photometric time series for the last ~1.6hrs of the transit of KOI 806.2 observed with the Gran Telescopio Canarias at Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos on the island of La Palma, Spain. The observations occurred on JD 2455740, revealing a transit timing variation of -103.5+/-6.9 minutes. The raw fits files were bias and flat field

  • Detailed chemical abundances of solar analogs with and without planets: no terrestial planet connection
We present the detailed chemical abundance patterns of 95 solar analogs, 24 hosting planets and 71 without detected planets, using very high-quality HARPS and UVES spectra. We explore the possibility that the presence of terrestial planets could affect the volatile-to-refratory abundance ratios. We do not see any clear difference between the stars

  • Continuous upflow of material in an active region filament from thephotosphere to the corona
Using spectropolarimetric data of an Active Region (AR) filament we have carried out inversions in order to infer vector magnetic fields in the photosphere (Si I line) and in the chromosphere (He I line). Our filament lies above the polarity inversion line (PIL) situated close to disk center and presents strong Zeeman-like signatures in both

  • Constraints on the polarization of the anomalous microwave emission inthe Perseus molecular complex from 7-year WMAP data
We have used the seven year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) data in order to update the measurements of the intensity signal in the G159.6-18.5 region within the Perseus Molecular Complex, and to set constraints on the polarization level of the anomalous microwave emission in the frequency range where this emission is dominant.
