Descripción
We are continuing a comprehensive systematic study of the properties of
Wolf-Rayet (WR) galaxies based on data from ground and space
observatories. In this proposal we request time on the KPNO 2.1m
telescope to undertake CCD imagery and spectroscopy of a group of
Northern WR galaxies. Our basic aim is threefold: identify and
characterize the properties of WR galaxies, evaluate the effects that
the enhanced populations of WR stars have on the ISM, and determine the
age of these systems and why they are seen in this current state. We
propose to obtain CCD imagery on the 2.1m to study the morphology and
distribution of the ionized gas, and to locate the WR stellar
populations. Then, we propose to follow-up with spectroscopy to
determine physical conditions and abundances in the local ISM around the
WR stars, the numbers and influence of the WR stars in the OB
associations of these galaxies, the ages of the stellar associations
with and without WR stars, and if the winds and radiation field of the
WR population affect the magnitude of temperature fluctuations in the
surrounding H II regions compared to ``normal'' OB associations.
