  • Infrared Spectra of Brown Dwarf Candidates in Taurus
We have obtained low resolution infrared spectra of 21 brown dwarf candidates, selected from a survey performed at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope. The spectra were obtained at the Telescopio Nazionale Galileo (La Palma), using the NICS spectrometer in the Amici configuration, which allows to observe the range 0.85-2.45 micron in a single shot

  • High-Precision Near-Infrared Photometry of a Large Sample of Bright Stars Visible from the Northern Hemisphere
We present the results of 8 yr of infrared photometric monitoring of a large sample of stars visible from Teide Observatory (Tenerife, Canary Islands). The final archive is made up of 10,949 photometric measures through a standard InSb single-channel photometer system, principally in JHK, although some stars have measures in L'. The core of this

  • Halo-Disk vs. Shrinking Scenarios
We discuss the possibility that the extended structures, lacking young stars, routinely found in dwarf irregular galaxies (dIrr) are a consequence of a progressive shrinking of the star forming region. This would be an alternative scenario to the possible halo-disk structure of dIrr. Although the final answer must wait until kinematical data of

  • Gas Content in Early Type Galaxies
The interstellar medium of early type galaxies has attracted a great deal of interest ever since Faber & Gallagher (1976) showed that a considerable amount of mass ejected by evolved stars could pile up over the lifetime of the galaxy (10^8 - 10^9 M[ scriptstyle sun ]). Surprisingly though, high resolution and sensitive HI observations demonstrated
