  • Multiband echo tomography of Sco X-1
We present preliminary results of a simultaneous X-ray/optical campaign of the prototypical LMXB Sco X-1 at 1 10 Hz time resolution. Lightcurves of the high excitation Bowen/HeII emission lines and a red continuum at λc ˜ 6000 Å were obtained through narrow interference filters with ULTRACAM, and these were cross-correlated with simultaneous RXTE X

  • Multi-wavelength spectral study of asteroids in cometary orbits
We present a preliminary analysis of visible + infrared spectra (0.5 2.4 μm) of 17 asteroids in cometary orbits (ACOs), asteroidal objects with Tisserand parameter T 3. These objects are part of a larger database of ACOs observed with the Italian 3.56 m “Telescopio Nazionale Galileo” and the 2.5 m “Nordic Optical Telescope” at the “El Roque de los

  • Morphology and kinematics of the ionised gas in early-type galaxies
We present results of our ongoing study of the morphology and kinematics of the ionised gas in 48 representative nearby elliptical and lenticular galaxies using the SAURON integral-field spectrograph on the 4.2m William Herschel Telescope. Making use of a recently developed technique, emission is detected in 75% of the galaxies. The ionised-gas

  • Modelling Lick spectroscopic indexes with the tunable filters of OSIRIS on GTC
We present the modelling of new indicators for old and intermediate age stellar populations based on the absorption features of Mg λ ˜ 5175 Å, Fe λ ˜ 4383 Å, and Hβ λ ˜ 5270, 4860 Å. Spectral models of stellar populations are convolved with the responses of the tunable filters of OSIRIS-GTC to provide photometric indexes with great abilities to

  • MAGIC Observations of Very High Energy γ-Rays from HESS J1813-178
Recently, the HESS collaboration has reported the detection of γ-ray emission above a few hundred GeV from eight new sources located close to the Galactic plane. The source HESS J1813-178 has sparked particular interest, as subsequent radio observations imply an association with supernova remnant G12.82-0.02. Triggered by the detection in very high

  • Looking for z > 7 Galaxies with the Gravitational Telescope
We summarize the main results obtained recently by our group on the identification and study of very high-z galaxies (z>7) using lensing clusters as natural gravitational telescopes. A description of our pilot survey with ISAAC/VLT is presented, aimed at the spectroscopic confirmation of z>7 candidate galaxies photometrically selected from deep
