  • GALEP, Spectral Mapping of the Inner Galaxy with EMIR
We propose to use EMIR to obtain near IR spectroscopy of many thousands Galaxy sources, mainly located in the inner regions. These will be selected from their position on IR colour-magnitude (CM) diagrams and will include disc, bar bulge and ring sources. The principal aim is to accurately classify the sources to provide a better understanding of

  • FPGA-based real time processing of the Plenoptic Wavefront Sensor
The plenoptic wavefront sensor combines measurements at pupil and image planes in order to obtain simultaneously wavefront information from different points of view, being capable to sample the volume above the telescope to extract the tomographic information of the atmospheric turbulence. The advantages of this sensor are presented elsewhere at

  • Failed Subject: Communication and Didactics of Astronomy
In the overall context of science popularisation, it is often remarked the need for specialised journalism: good training programmes for journalists would provide them with scientific communication skills. Thus, science journalists are usually educated at the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC). However, the success of the scientific

  • Extremely Compact Massive Galaxies at 1.7 < z < 3
We measure and analyze the sizes of 82 massive (M ≥ 1011 M &sun;) galaxies at 1. 7 ≤ z ≤ 3 utilizing deep HST NICMOS data taken in the GOODS North and South fields. Our sample provides the first statistical study of massive galaxy sizes at z > 2. We split our sample into disk-like (Sérsic index n ≤ 2) and spheroid-like (Sérsic index n > 2) galaxies

  • Expectations and Limits to Synthesize Nuclei with Z ≥ 120
In order to explore the possibilities to synthesize the new superheavy elements with Z=120, 122, 124, 126 some hot-fusion (mass asymmetric) reactions and cold-fusion (less mass asymmetric) reactions are studied. The dynamics of reaction with massive nuclei and the formation probability of heavy and superheavy elements with Z=90-126 in the

  • Dynamic-Statistical Approach to the Description of the Induced Fission in Wide Excitation Energy Range
It is developed a new approach to analyze the induced fission of heavy nuclei, which takes into account the nuclear dissipation phenomenon and the shell structure of nuclei in determination of fission barriers. The approach is based on the combined dynamical and statistical simulations. In the framework of this approach the method of calculation
