  • Rapid optical and X-ray timing observations of GX339-4: multicomponent optical variability in the low/hard state
A rapid timing analysis of Very Large Telescope (VLT)/ULTRACAM (optical) and RXTE (X-ray) observations of the Galactic black hole binary GX339-4 in the low/hard, post-outburst state of 2007 June is presented. The optical light curves in the r',g' and u' filters show slow (~20s) quasi-periodic variability. Upon this is superposed fast flaring

  • Quantitative Galaxy Morphology of Five Medium Redshift Clusters
We have studied the quantitative morphology and structural parameters of the bright galaxy population in the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT) sample, which consists of five clusters of galaxies within the redshift range 0.18 ≤ z ≤ 0.25, imaged in the central 0.5-2 Mpc in very good seeing conditions. We have obtained that the structural parameters of

  • Origin Of The Near-earth Asteroid Phaethon And The Geminids Meteor Shower
Asteroid (3200) Phaethon is a remarkable Near Earth Asteroid (NEA). It was the first asteroid associated with a meteor shower, namely the Geminid stream1. Phaethon's unusual orbit has a high inclination and a very low perihelion distance (0.14 AU). Its reflectance spectrum suggests a connection with primitive meteorites, best fitting with CI/CM
