  • The Recent Star Formation History of NGC 5102
We present Hubble Space Telescope photometry of young stars in NGC 5102, a nearby gas-rich post-starburst S0 galaxy with a bright young stellar nucleus. We use the IAC-pop/MinnIAC algorithm to derive the recent star formation history in three fields in the bulge and disk of NGC 5102. In the disk fields, the recent star formation rate has declined

  • The quasar MBH-Mhost relation through cosmic time - II. Evidence for evolution from z = 3 to the present age
We study the dependence of the relation on the redshift up to z = 3 for a sample of 96 quasars, the host galaxy luminosities of which are known. Black hole masses were estimated assuming virial equilibrium in the broad-line regions, while the host galaxy masses were inferred from their luminosities. With these data, we are able to pin down the

  • The quasar MBH-Mhost relation through cosmic time - I. Data set and black hole masses
We study the relation as a function of cosmic time in a sample of 96 quasars from z = 3 to the present epoch. In this paper, we describe the sample, the data sources and the new spectroscopic observations. We then illustrate how we derive from single-epoch spectra, pointing out the uncertainties in the procedure. In a companion paper, we address

  • The physics driving the cosmic star formation history
We investigate the physics driving the cosmic star formation (SF) history using the more than 50 large, cosmological, hydrodynamical simulations that together comprise the OverWhelmingly Large Simulations project. We systematically vary the parameters of the model to determine which physical processes are dominant and which aspects of the model are

  • The last breath of the young gigahertz-peaked spectrum radio source PKS1518+047
We present the results from multifrequency VLBA observations from 327MHz to 8.4GHz of the gigahertz-peaked spectrum radio source PKS1518+047 (4C04.51) aimed at studying the spectral index distribution across the source. Further multifrequency archival Very Large Array data were analysed to constrain the spectral shape of the whole source. The pc

  • The JCMT Nearby Galaxies Legacy Survey - III. Comparisons of cold dust, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, molecular gas and atomic gas in NGC 2403
We used Spitzer Space Telescope 3.6, 8.0, 70 and 160μm data, James Clerk Maxwell Telescope HARP-B CO J = (3-2) data, National Radio Astronomy Observatory 12 m telescope CO J = (1-0) data and Very Large Array HI data to investigate the relations among polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), cold (~20K) dust, molecular gas and atomic gas within NGC
