  • Apparent discordant redshift QSO-galaxy associations
An "exotic" idea proposed by Viktor Ambartsumian was that new galaxies are formed through the ejection from older active galaxies. Galaxies beget galaxies, instead of the standard scenario in which galaxies stem from the evolution of the seeds derived from fluctuations in the initial density field. This idea is in some way contained in the

  • Abell 41: shaping of a planetary nebula by a binary central star
We present the first detailed spatiokinematical analysis and modelling of the planetary nebula Abell 41, which is known to contain the well-studied close-binary system MT Ser. This object represents an important test case in the study of the evolution of planetary nebulae with binary central stars as current evolutionary theories predict that the

  • A Precise Asteroseismic Age and Radius for the Evolved Sun-like Star KIC 11026764
The primary science goal of the Kepler Mission is to provide a census of exoplanets in the solar neighborhood, including the identification and characterization of habitable Earth-like planets. The asteroseismic capabilities of the mission are being used to determine precise radii and ages for the target stars from their solar-like oscillations

  • A high-resolution VLT/FLAMES study of individual stars in the centre of the Fornax dwarf spheroidal galaxy
For the first time we show the detailed, late-stage, chemical evolution history of a small nearby dwarf spheroidal galaxy in the Local Group. We present the results of a high-resolution (R ~ 20 000, λ = 5340-5620; 6120-6701) FLAMES/GIRAFFE abundance study at ESO/VLT of 81 photometrically selected, red giant branch stars in the central 25' of the

  • 2MASS/SDSS data for 806 ultracool dwarfs (Zhang+, 2010)
SDSS (II/294), 2MASS (II/246) and UKIDSS (II/304) photometry of 806 ultra-cool dwarfs. Proper motions are found by dividing the difference between the 2MASS and UKIDSS coordinates by the observational epoch difference. Spectral types are based on their SDSS spectra and the relationship between spectral type and SDSS and 2MASS colors. (1 data file).
