  • Mass Loss in Galactic Globulars: Red Giant Stragglers and Helium White Dwarfs
The evolution of Population II Red Giants has been studied by adopting Reimers' formalism for the efficiency of mass loss. Evolutionary computations for models of 0.8M0, Y = 0.23 and Z = 0.0002 are presented for a wide range of values of the parameter TI governing the mass loss rate. We find that for values of TI greater than about 0.70 the

  • Infrared Spectrophotometry of Bright Carbon Stars
We present medium-resolution ( /A 500) absolute spectrophotometry of 15 bright and cool (N-type) carbon stars. The observations were made with a cooled grating spectrometer within the J ii, K and L' atmospheric windows (1-4.2 ). The observed C stars were AQ Sgr, RT Cap, RV Cyg, RY Dra, S Sct, T Lyr, TX Psc, TW Oph, VAql, V Cyg, VX And, V460 Cyg, Y

  • Galactic structure from the Two Micron Galactic Survey
The Two Micron Galactic Survey (TMGS) is the most sensitive large scale point source near infrared survey of the Galactic Plane yet attempted. The Galactic plane has been drift-scanned in several regions over the areas -5 deg less than l less than 30 deg, absolute value of b less than or equal to 15 deg and 30 deg less than l less than 180 deg

  • Electronic testing of the IAC infrared camera
The technology division of the Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC) is developing a data acquisition system (DAS) for an IR camera to be used at the 1.5m Carlos Sanchez Telescope (TCS) in the Observatorio del Teide (Canary Islands, Spain). This camera will work between a wavelength of 1 and 5 microns and will employ an InSb focal plane array

  • DENIS: A Deep Near-Infrared Survey of the southern sky
The Deep Near-Infrared Survey (DENIS) project is the first attempt to carry out a complete digitized survey of the southern sky in the range 1-2.5 micrometers. The main objectives of the program and the main specifications of the camera and of the data processing stream are briefly outlined.

  • An implicit integral method to solve selected radiative transfer problems. 2: LTE stellar atmosphere models
The implicit intergral method that we have already introduced in a previous paper, together with its application to the non-Local Thermal Equilibrium (non-LTE) line formation problem, is considered here for another paradigm problem, namely, the self-consistent temperature correction when computing Local Thermal Equilibrium (LTE) stellar atmosphere
