  • SY Cnc, a case for unstable mass transfer?
Intermediate-resolution (0.5-1 Å) optical spectroscopy of the cataclysmic variable (CV) SY Cnc reveals the spectrum of the donor star. Our data enable us to resolve the orbital motion of the donor and provide a new orbital solution, binary mass ratio and spectral classification. We find that the donor star has spectral-type G8 +/- 2 V and orbits

  • SYMPA, a dedicated instrument for Jovian seismology. I. Principle and performance
Aims:The detection and measurement of acoustic modes on the giant planets of the solar system is of great interest for the study of the internal structure and evolution of the giant planets, as well as the study of the solar system formation. Such observations require a dedicated instrument and observing procedure. Methods: We describe the

  • SYMPA, a dedicated instrument for Jovian seismology. II. Real performance and first results
Aims: SYMPA is the first instrument dedicated to the observation of free oscillations of Jupiter. Its principles and theoretical performance have been presented in Paper I. This second paper describes the data processing method, the real instrumental performance and presents the first results of a Jovian observation run, lead in 2005 at Teide

  • Synthetic Observations of Wave Propagation in a Sunspot Umbra
Spectropolarimetric temporal series from Fe I λ6301.5 Å and Ca II infrared triplet lines are obtained by applying the Stokes synthesis code NICOLE to a numerical simulation of wave propagation in a sunspot umbra from MANCHA code. • T-Lyr1-17236: A Long-Period Low-Mass Eclipsing Binary
We describe the discovery of a 0.68+0.52 Msolar eclipsing binary (EB) with an 8.4 day orbital period, found through a systematic search of 10 fields of the Trans-atlantic Exoplanet Survey (TrES). Such long-period low-mass EBs constitute critical test cases for resolving the long-standing discrepancy between the theoretical and observational mass

  • Target Selection for the SDSS-IV APOGEE-2 Survey
APOGEE-2 is a high-resolution, near-infrared spectroscopic survey observing ∼3 × 105 stars across the entire sky. It is the successor to APOGEE and is part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV (SDSS-IV). APOGEE-2 is expanding on APOGEE’s goals of addressing critical questions of stellar astrophysics, stellar populations, and Galactic chemodynamical
