  • Reliability of P mode event classification using contemporaneous BiSON and GOLF observations
We carried out a comparison of the signals seen in contemporaneous BiSON and GOLF data sets. Both instruments perform Doppler shift velocity measurements in integrated sunlight, although BiSON perform measurements from the two wings of potassium absorption line and GOLF from one wing of the NaD1 line. Discrepancies between the two datasets have

  • REM optical/NIR observations of MAXI J1659-152
We observed the optical and NIR counterpart of the recently discovered X-ray transient MAXI J1659-152 (Negoro et al. 2010, ATel #2873; Mangano et al. 2010, GCN #11296) with the REM telescope located in La Silla (Chile) in imaging mode using the V, R, I, J, H and K filters. Observations were carried out on 2009 Sept. 30, starting from 23:43 UT (MJD

  • Removing systematics from the CoRoT light curves. I. Magnitude-dependent zero point
This paper presents an analysis that searched for systematic effects within the CoRoT exoplanet field light curves. The analysis identified a systematic effect that modified the zero point of most CoRoT exposures as a function of stellar magnitude. We could find this effect only after preparing a set of learning light curves that were relatively

  • Renewed activity of the neutron star X-ray transient SAX J1747.0-2853
An X-ray transient was detected in outburst on 18 October 2005 during one of our Chandra/HRC-I observations as part of the XMM-Newton/Chandra monitoring campaign of the 1.7 square degree around Sgr A* (Wijnands et al. 2005, A&A submitted, astro-ph/0508648). The source was located ~15 arcminutes away from the aim-point which did not allow a sub

  • Resolving the Internal Magnetic Structure of the Solar Network
We analyze the spectral asymmetry of Stokes V (circularly polarized) profiles of an individual network patch in the quiet Sun observed by Sunrise/IMaX. At a spatial resolution of 0farcs15-0farcs18, the network elements contain substructure which is revealed by the spatial distribution of Stokes V asymmetries. The area asymmetry between the red and

  • Resolving the nuclear dust distribution of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 3081
We report far-infrared (FIR) imaging of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 3081 in the range 70-500 μm, obtained with an unprecedented angular resolution, using the Herschel Space Observatory instruments PACS and SPIRE. The 11 kpc (˜70 arcsec) diameter star-forming ring of the galaxy appears resolved up to 250 μm. We extracted IR (1.6-500 μm) nuclear fluxes
