  • Deficiency of ``Thin'' Stellar Bars in Seyfert Host Galaxies
Using all available major samples of Seyfert galaxies and their corresponding closely matched control samples of nonactive galaxies, we find that the bar ellipticities (or axial ratios) in Seyfert galaxies are systematically different from those in nonactive galaxies. Overall, there is a deficiency of bars with large ellipticities (i.e., ``thin''

  • Comparison of Frequencies and Rotational Splittings of Solar Acoustic Modes of Low Angular Degree from Simultaneous MDI and GOLF Observations
During the years 1996 through 1998 the Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) and the Global Oscillations at Low Frequency (GOLF) experiments on the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) mission have provided unique and nearly uninterrupted sequences of helioseismic observations. This paper describes the analysis carried out on power spectra from 759

  • Architectural design of the GTC control system
Last two years the GTC control system has continued its design and prototyping activity. This paper presents the current state of the GTC control system architecture. The overall architecture is already designed and the main subsystems have been specified and are being designed. Design patterns have been applied to the architecture design and are

  • Application of CORBA to the GTC control system
This paper is focused on how the features and object services provided by CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) can be applied to solve the specific needs of a modern telescope control system. The solutions presented in this paper are based on TAO, which is the ORB (Object Request Broker) implementation selected by the GTC Control Group
