  • Non-LTE Model Atmospheres for Late-Type Stars. II. Restricted Non-LTE Calculations for a Solar-like Atmosphere
We test our knowledge of the atomic opacity in the solar UV spectrum. Using the atomic data compiled in the first paper in this series from modern, publicly available databases, we perform calculations that are compared with space-based observations of the Sun. At wavelengths longer than about 2600 Å, LTE modeling can reproduce quite closely the

  • New measurement of the 6Li/7Li isotopic ratio in the extra-solar planet host star HD 82943 and line blending in the Li 6708 Å region
The presence of possible blends in the spectral region of the Li resonance line at 6708 Å in solar-type metal-rich stars is investigated using high resolution and high signal-to-noise spectroscopic observations. Our analysis does not confirm the identification of a weak absorption feature at 6708.025 Å with the low excitation Ti I line proposed by

  • Near-infrared spectroscopy of nearby Seyfert galaxies - II. Molecular content and coronal emission
We present subarcsec near-infrared 1.5-2.5 μm moderate resolution long-slit spectra of eight nearby Seyfert galaxies (z 0.01), both parallel to the ionization cone and perpendicular to it. These spectra complement similar data on six Seyferts, presented in Reunanen, Kotilainen & Prieto, and are used to study the spatial extent of the line emission

  • Narrow band survey for intragroup light in the Leo HI cloud. Constraints on the galaxy background contamination in imaging surveys for intracluster planetary nebulae
We have observed emission line objects located in a 0.26 deg2 field in the M 96 (Leo) group, coincident with the intergalactic HI cloud. The emission line objects were selected using the same procedure as used for the search for intracluster planetary nebulae in the Virgo cluster. 29 emission line objects were identified, with [OIII] filter

  • Minor axis kinematics of 19 S0-Sbc bulges
We present minor axis kinematic profiles for a well-studied sample of 19 early- to intermediate-type disk galaxies. We introduce, for the first time, the use of single-burst stellar population (SSP) models to obtain stellar velocities, velocity dispersions and higher order Gauss-Hermite moments (h3, h4) from galaxy spectra in the near-infrared Ca
