  • Stellar Populations of Elliptical Galaxies in Virgo Cluster. I. The Data and Stellar Population Analysis
We have determined spectroscopic ages of elliptical galaxies in the Virgo Cluster using spectra of very high signal-to-noise ratio (S/N>100 Å-1). We observed eight galaxies with the Subaru Telescope and have combined this sample with six galaxies previously observed with the WHT. To determine their ages, we have used a new method based on the Hγσ

  • Stellar kinematics and populations of early-type galaxies with the SAURON and OASIS integral-field spectrographs
We summarise the results and achievements of integral-field spectroscopy of early-type galaxies, observed as part of a survey using both the SAURON and OASIS spectrographs. From the perspective of integral-field spectroscopy, these otherwise smooth and featureless objects show a wealth of structure, both in their stellar kinematics and populations

  • Spectroscopy of QUEST RR Lyrae Variables: The New Virgo Stellar Stream
Eighteen RR Lyrae variables (RRLs) that lie in the ``12.4h clump'' identified by the Quasar Equatorial Survey Team (QUEST) have been observed spectroscopically to measure their radial velocities and metal abundances. Ten blue horizontal branch (BHB) stars identified by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) were added to this sample. Six of the nine

  • Spectral synthesis analysis and radial velocity study of the northern F-, G- and K-type flare stars
In this paper, we present a study of the general physical and chemical properties and radial velocity monitoring of young active stars. We derive temperatures, logg, [Fe/H], v sini and Rspec values for eight stars. The detailed analysis reveals that the stars are not homogeneous in their principal physical parameters or in the age distribution. In

  • Search Strategies for Exoplanets
Since 1995, more than 140 planets around solar-type stars have been discovered. The great success of the first decade of observational research in exoplanets, where both the number of planets detected and the number of research groups in the field have grown in parallel, will be followed by a golden age in exoplanet discovery. In the next 15 years
