  • Accounting for convective blue-shifts in the determination of absolute stellar radial velocities.
For late-type non-active stars, gravitational redshifts and convective blueshifts are the main source of biases in the determination of radial velocities. If ignored, these effects can introduce systematic errors of the order of ˜ 0.5 km s-1. We demonstrate that three-dimensional hydrodynamical simulations of solar surface convection can be used to

  • Vertex identification of events in photonuclear reactions by cylindrical multiwire proportional chambers
In the framework of investigation of meson photo-production on proton and neutron in a deuterium target at the GRAAL experiment, we present a method to identify the vertex of interaction when in reaction products there are at least two charged particles, by the information provided by the cylindrical multiwire proportional chambers. By this device

  • Role of the orientation angles of reacting nuclei in evaporation residue production
The influence of the orientation angles of the projectile- and target-nucleus symmetry axes relative to the beam direction on the production of the evaporation residues (ERs) is investigated for the 48Ca+154Sm reaction as a function of the beam energy. The measured yields of ERs by massive nuclei reactions have been well reproduced by using the

  • Radiation of bremsstrahlung accompanying the α-decay of heavy nuclei
This paper presents the spectrum of the bremsstrahlung emission accompanying the α-decay of 226Ra (Eα=4.8 MeV) by measuring the α-γ coincidences. We analyze the spectrum by using the model presented in our previous study on the α-decay of 214Po (Eα=7.7 MeV). We compare the experimental data with the quantum mechanical calculation and find a good

  • From Espresso to Codex
CODEX and ESPRESSO are concepts for ultra-stable, high-resolution spectrographs at the E-ELT and VLT, respectively. Both instruments are well motivated by distinct sets of science drivers. However, ESPRESSO will also be a stepping stone towards CODEX both in a scientific as well as in a technical sense. Here we discuss this role of ESPRESSO with

  • Evolución química en la Nube Mayor de Magallanes a partir de fotometría de Washington de cúmulos estelares
From C, T1 Washington photometry in the field of NGC 1697, SL 133, NGC 1997, SL 663, and OHSC 28, five mostly unstudied star clusters in the LMC, we estimate the cluster radii, ages and metallicities. With the exception of NGC 1697 (age = 0.7 Gyr, [Fe/H] = 0.0 dex), the remaining four clusters are of intermediate-age (from 2.2 to 3.0 Gyr) and
