  • Advances in solar rotation rate inferences: Unstructured grid inversions and improved rotational splittings
We present a new inversion methodology that adapts the inversion grid in both radius and co-latitude to the data set and solves the inversion problem through an iterative procedure. This method was tested on state-of-the-art global mode frequency splittings to assess the solar interior rotation rate and its temporal variation. We also explore the

  • X-ray monitoring of classical novae in the central region of M 31. I. June 2006-March 2007
Context. Classical novae (CNe) have recently been reported to represent the major class of supersoft X-ray sources (SSSs) in the central region of our neighbour galaxy M 31. Aims: We carried out a dedicated monitoring of the M 31 central region with XMM-Newton and Chandra in order to find SSS counterparts of CNe, determine the duration of their SSS

  • WMAP 5-year constraints on α and me
We have studied the role of fundamental constants in an updated recombination scenario. We focus on the time variation of the fine structure constant α, and the electron mass me in the early Universe. In the last years, helium recombination has been studied in great detail revealing the importance of taking new physical processes into account in

  • Where the Granular Flows Bend
Based on IMaX/SUNRISE data, we report on a previously undetected phenomenon in solar granulation. We show that in a very narrow region separating granules and intergranular lanes, the spectral line width of the Fe I 5250.2 Å line becomes extremely small. We offer an explanation of this observation with the help of magneto-convection simulations

  • Two-site CCD observations and spectroscopy of HD 207331: A new δ Scuti variable in Cygnus
The results of an observational campaign on the new δ Scuti pulsator HD 207331 are reported. The star was observed photometrically from August 26 to September 2, 2009 from the Observatorio San Pedro Mártir (0.84-m telescope, Mexico) and the Observatorio del Teide (0.80-m telescope, Spain). An overall run of 53.8 h of useful data was collected from
