  • Chemical Tagging of Stellar Kinematic Groups: The Hyades Supercluster
Stellar Kinematic Groups are kinematical coherent groups of stars which may share a common origin. These groups spread through the Galaxy over time due to tidal effects caused by galactic rotation and disk heating, however some chemical information remains unchanged. The aim of chemical tagging is to show that abundances of every element in the

  • Appearance of Nuclear Shell Effects and Initial Charge (mass) Asymmetry in the Formation of Products of Heavy Ion Collisions
The role of the entrance channel in the formation of the reaction products is discussed. The excitation functions of evaporation residues for the 50Ti+249Cf and 54Cr+248Cm reactions are compared.

  • Abell 41: nebular shaping by a binary central star?
We present the first detailed spatio-kinematical analysis and modelling of the planetary nebula Abell 41, which is known to contain the well-studied close-binary system MT Ser. This object represents an important test case in the study of the evolution of planetary nebulae with binary central stars as current evolutionary theories predict that the

  • A Detailled 2D Spectroscopic Study of the Central Region of NGC 5253
We present Integral Field Spectroscopy observations of NGC 5253, a very nearby (d ˜ 3.8 Mpc) HII galaxy. This type of observations allows the detailed study of the interplay between gas, dust and stars. Here, we will focus on recent results related to the cause of the local enrichment of nitrogen found for this galaxy as well as on its kinematics

  • 3D Spectroscopy Unveils Massive Galaxy Formation Modes at High-z
Massive (stellar mass ≥ 1011 M &sun;) galaxies at high redshift (z ≥ 1. 5) remain mysterious objects. Their extremely small sizes (effective radii of 1 - 2 kpc) make them as dense as globular clusters, whereas in the present day Universe similar mass systems are large with old and metal-rich stellar populations. In order to explore this development

  • X-ray Spectral State is not Correlated with Luminosity in Holmberg II X-1
The ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX) Holmberg II X-1 has been observed over four months in 2009/2010 by the Swift observatory. The source luminosity varied by a factor of up to 14, reaching a maximum 0.3-10 keV luminosity of ~3.0 × 1040 erg s-1. The spectral properties do not vary much over these four months, with only a slight monotonic increase
